Marco Torres on Empowering Students Through Multimedia
Marco Torres, a social studies teacher and technology director at San Fernando High School, explores how the creation of multimedia projects empowers his students, as well as those who participate in the San Fernando Education Technology Team
What are your thoughts about how multimedia and project based learning might play a role in your classroom?
2. Complete the PBL Multimedia Activity in class with your group

Students participate in a mock project-based learning activity in class earning 3 points for adding multimedia elements into the project, 3 points for team participation and 3 points for participating in the authentic assessment activity that completes the mock activity. And 1 Point for a reflection post after the activity is completed.
Students will complete a multimedia project presentation about the LifeCycle of the Butterfly (Content Challenge: Low / Tech Challenge: medium-high)
Students can choose the type of presentation tool they would like to use based on their professional needs/preferences: Podcast, Powerpoint, Keynote, Explain Everything App, Google Presentation, Brainshark, Powtoon, Prezi, etc.

Consider you and your students: Are these notes helpful? Are there other resources you would like to access? Do some students require additional supports? What tools/strategies could be used to support all learners in successfully completing this project? Feel free to seek out additional resources.
Images are provided to help students be successful. If you have the skills and resources to collect other images, please feel free to do so!

Guidelines for Reflecting on Project Work
The Audience will give feedback:
What do you like about what you: see, hear, feel, etc. when you view the project?
What was it about the work (visual, auditory, emotional) that engages you, and why?
What, if any, personal learning happened for you in viewing/interacting with the project in terms of: content, technical issues, personal insights?
Did this project create/promote a desire in you to want to know more about its content/subject, or about the technology and technical skills that produced it? Why?
What was it that the technological tools made possible in the project that traditional instructional resources either couldn’t do at all, or not as well?
If you had one technical question you could ask the group, what would it be?
Each presenter decides which aspect of learning on which they wish to focus in self-reflection:
Subject Matter Content: What was learned about the topic?
Technical Skills: What technical skills were developed in the process? What software, hardware and/or strategies did you learn to use?
Planning, Organization and Implementation: What are key skills and/or concepts for planning, organizing and implementing use of new tech tools?
Personal Insights: What did you learn about your own learning? How can you generalize from your personal experience to the staff and students you will be working with?
3. Post a Multimedia Project Reflection Discussion in Edmodo. Due December 9th.
Prompt: Reflect on your experiences with your project and making your multimedia activity. What are some ways you would use multimedia and project based learning to reach all learners in the literacy curriculum standards? How does the electronic learning environment assist you with differentiating instruction in this imaginary classroom?
